Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis):
Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a chronic skin condition characterized by red, itchy, and inflamed skin. It often appears as a rash on the face, inside the elbows, behind the knees, and on the hands and feet. Eczema is not contagious, and it tends to run in families. It can vary in severity, with some people experiencing mild, occasional flare-ups, while others have more severe and persistent symptoms.
Common triggers for eczema include allergies, irritants (such as certain fabrics or soaps), stress, and changes in temperature or humidity. Managing eczema usually involves moisturizing the skin, avoiding triggers, using topical corticosteroids or other prescribed medications, and making lifestyle adjustments to minimize flare-ups.
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is another chronic skin condition, but it differs from eczema in several ways. It is characterized by the rapid growth of skin cells, which leads to the formation of thick, red, scaly patches on the skin. These patches, known as plaques, can appear anywhere on the body but are often found on the elbows, knees, scalp, and lower back. Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease, which means it occurs when the immune system mistakenly targets healthy skin cells.
Psoriasis is also not contagious. Like eczema, it can vary in severity, with some individuals experiencing mild symptoms and others having more extensive and severe plaques. Psoriasis can be triggered or worsened by factors like stress, infections, certain medications, and cold weather.
Treatment for psoriasis aims to reduce inflammation, slow down the rapid skin cell growth, and alleviate symptoms. It can include topical creams or ointments, phototherapy (light therapy), oral medications, and biologic drugs in severe cases.
In summary, while both eczema and psoriasis are chronic skin conditions that can cause discomfort and affect a person’s quality of life, they are distinct in terms of their causes, symptoms, and treatments. If you suspect you have either of these conditions, it’s essential to consult with a dermatologist or healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plan.

Customer Review:
I use this in the AM and PM as a facial moisturizer and I have to say, it’s improved my skin dramatically and keeps it soft and smooth. It’s thick but not greasy and melts into the skin. For those that are giving negative reviews because of the oil separation, that is normal! You need to kneed and shake the tube vigorously when you first get it so it mixes. You do that once and your done. That’s maybe one thing they can improve upon, better packaging so you can easily mix it, but it’s well worth the price for such an amazing product. It beats the expensive brands by far..ForeverWild

Customer Review:
I live in the upper Midwest where the winter skin dryness is extreme this time of year. I also just had psoriasis develop for the first time and am so itchy and my skin has a burning sensation on my upper back and shoulders. This cream is finely giving me a soothing feeling that I just can’t seem to get in the other lotions I have tried. I just began using it so I don’t know long term how well it will work yet. But so far I am enjoying the relief from the cream in my first day of using it. I LOVE supporting made in the USA companies and especially companies that care what ingredients are in their products. Thank you for this wonderful eczema and psoriasis cream!Ryan Mulske

Customer Review:
I got this cream because I wanted something that was moisturizing for my face, but wouldn’t make it red because I have sensitive skin. It works pretty well to make my face not dry. When I put it on my face it feels a little heavy at first, but it rubs in nicely. And I’m surprised that it doesn’t clog my pores which is nice because the cream is pretty thick. It’s also a nice cream for the body too. There’s a lot of cream in this container and I know it’s going to last me a long time. There also isn’t much of a smell which I likePAT A

Customer Review:
I’ve found my alternative. Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream had been my daily moisturizer for more than 10 years. I love it. But they’ve been slowly raising the price, and I finally decided I needed to change it. I’m sad I waited so long hah. This Ultra Repair Cream is the best alternative I’ve tried. No scent, light weight, easy on my skin. It’s great. It’s a teeny tiny bit heavier than the Kiehls, but it’s so close it doesn’t really matter. I prob wouldn’t have noticed the difference if I wasn’t already comparing them. This, at time of writing, is half the cost of the comparable Kiehls, and you’re getting a small amount more of moisturizer, at 6OZ vs 4.2OZ. I can’t go backEdward C Beach

Customer Review:
Love the product, but the additional packaging is overkill. The cap is already shrink wrapped. The addition of the white tape strip is too much and difficult to remove. I have had a cap come off in delivery, but it didn’t have the manufacturers shrink wrap already applied.Wensu

Customer Review:
Best lotion for eczema or just dry skin. Its literal magic the way it works. If you are struggling really bad, on areas that can be coveree up, I recommend putting a thick layer on the dry area and cover with whatever you can like gloves or socks overnight. When you wake up its like it was never dry or cracked to begin with! Also im one to not apply lotion religiously and the affects from one application last at least 24 hrs for me – and as a chef i am constantly washing my hands with harsh soaps. Seriously if youre on the fence, dont be. Its been a life saver for me. My hand was so bad it would crack and bleed and even be discolored. Not anymore!JJ Melons

How Does Eczema and psoriasis creams Work?
Eczema and psoriasis creams and ointments are specially formulated to work on the symptoms and underlying causes of these skin conditions. Here’s how they typically work:
Eczema Creams and Ointments:Eczema creams and ointments are designed to address the symptoms of eczema, which include:
Dryness: Eczema often causes dry skin, so these products contain moisturizing agents to hydrate and lock in moisture.
Itchiness: Eczema can be incredibly itchy, leading to scratching and further skin irritation. Many eczema creams and ointments contain anti-itch ingredients to relieve this symptom.
Inflammation: The redness and inflammation associated with eczema are targeted by these products. They often contain anti-inflammatory ingredients to reduce swelling and redness.
Skin Barrier Repair: Eczema can compromise the skin’s natural barrier, making it more susceptible to irritants and allergens. Some creams and ointments contain ingredients that help repair the skin barrier.
Preventing Infections: Scratching eczema-prone skin can lead to infections. Certain products may include antimicrobial agents to reduce the risk of infection.
These creams and ointments are typically applied directly to the affected areas of the skin. They provide relief from the discomfort associated with eczema and help manage its symptoms. It’s essential to use them as directed by a healthcare professional.
Psoriasis Creams and Ointments:
Psoriasis creams and ointments are formulated to target the symptoms of psoriasis, which include:
Thickening of Skin: Psoriasis causes the rapid growth of skin cells, leading to thick, scaly plaques. These creams often contain ingredients that help slow down the excessive skin cell production.
Inflammation:Psoriasis plaques are typically red and inflamed. These products include anti-inflammatory agents to reduce redness and swelling.
Itchiness: Psoriasis can be itchy, and creams may contain ingredients to alleviate this symptom.
Scaling: Psoriasis scales can be uncomfortable and unsightly. Some creams and ointments contain ingredients that soften and remove these scales.
Skin Hydration: Keeping the skin well-hydrated is essential in managing psoriasis. Some products focus on moisturizing the skin to reduce dryness and discomfort.
Psoriasis creams and ointments are applied directly to the affected areas of the skin, similar to eczema treatments. They aim to control the symptoms of psoriasis and reduce the frequency and severity of flare-ups.
It’s important to note that while these creams and ointments can be effective in managing the symptoms of eczema and psoriasis, they may not provide a cure. Treatment plans often involve a combination of topical products, lifestyle changes, and, in some cases, prescription medications to effectively manage these chronic skin conditions. Individuals with eczema or psoriasis should consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice and treatment recommendations.
What Are the Benefits of Eczema Creams
Eczema creams offer several benefits for individuals dealing with this chronic skin condition, also known as atopic dermatitis. These creams are specially formulated to address the specific symptoms and needs of eczema-prone skin. Here are the key benefits of using eczema creams:
- Moisturization: Eczema is often associated with dry and dehydrated skin. Eczema creams contain moisturizing ingredients that help hydrate the skin, preventing it from becoming excessively dry and reducing the risk of flare-ups.
- Relief from Itchiness: One of the most distressing symptoms of eczema is itching. Eczema creams typically contain anti-itch ingredients like hydrocortisone or other soothing agents that provide relief from itching, helping individuals resist the urge to scratch, which can worsen the condition.
- Reduction of Inflammation: Eczema creams often contain anti-inflammatory ingredients such as corticosteroids or topical calcineurin inhibitors. These components help reduce redness and inflammation associated with eczema, making the skin look and feel better.
- Skin Barrier Repair: Eczema can compromise the skin’s natural barrier, making it more susceptible to irritants and allergens. Some eczema creams include ingredients like ceramides, which help repair and strengthen the skin barrier, reducing the risk of flare-ups.
- Prevention of Infections: Scratching eczema-prone skin can lead to open sores and an increased risk of infection. Some eczema creams contain antimicrobial or antibacterial agents that reduce the likelihood of skin infections.
- Symptom Management: Eczema creams effectively manage the visible symptoms of eczema, such as redness, dryness, and scaling. By alleviating these symptoms, they improve the overall appearance and comfort of the skin.
- Customized Formulations: Eczema creams come in various formulations, including different strengths and types. This allows individuals to choose a product that matches the severity of their eczema and their skin type.
- Over-the-Counter Availability: Many eczema creams are available over the counter, making them easily accessible without a prescription. This convenience allows individuals to start treatment promptly.
- Improved Quality of Life: By providing relief from the discomfort and cosmetic concerns associated with eczema, these creams can significantly enhance an individual’s quality of life. They can lead to better sleep, reduced self-consciousness, and an overall improved sense of well-being.
- Complementary to Other Treatments: Eczema creams can be used alongside other treatments, such as prescription medications or lifestyle adjustments. They complement these treatments by targeting specific symptoms and providing relief.
It’s important to note that the choice of eczema cream should be based on the individual’s specific needs, the severity of their eczema, and any recommendations from a healthcare professional. Long-term management of eczema may require a combination of skincare routines, lifestyle changes, and medical treatments, with eczema creams playing a pivotal role in symptom control.
How to Choose Best Eczema Creams
Choosing the best eczema cream can make a significant difference in managing your eczema symptoms effectively. Here are some key factors to consider when selecting the right eczema cream for your needs:
- Consult with a Healthcare Professional: Before choosing an eczema cream, it’s crucial to consult with a dermatologist or healthcare provider. They can assess the severity of your eczema, identify any underlying causes, and provide personalized recommendations.
- Identify Your Eczema Type: Eczema comes in various forms, including atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, and nummular eczema, among others. Understanding your specific type of eczema can help you choose a cream tailored to your needs.
- Read the Ingredients Label: Check the ingredients list on the cream’s packaging. Look for creams that are fragrance-free and hypoallergenic to reduce the risk of skin irritation. Common beneficial ingredients include ceramides, hyaluronic acid, shea butter, and colloidal oatmeal for their moisturizing properties.
- Consider the Severity of Your Eczema: The severity of eczema can vary widely. Mild cases may respond well to over-the-counter (OTC) creams, while more severe cases may require prescription-strength options. Your healthcare provider can help determine the appropriate strength for your condition.
- Choose the Right Base: Eczema creams come in different bases, such as ointments, creams, lotions, and gels. The choice of base depends on your skin type and personal preference. Ointments are the most hydrating but can feel greasier, while creams and lotions are lighter and easier to apply.
- Avoid Potential Allergens: If you have known allergies or sensitivities, be cautious about potential allergens in eczema creams. Some creams may contain ingredients that trigger allergic reactions. Always do a patch test on a small area of your skin before applying a new product to your entire body.
- Steroid vs. Non-Steroid Creams: Topical corticosteroid creams are often prescribed to manage eczema inflammation. Non-steroidal options, such as calcineurin inhibitors, are available for those who prefer steroid-free treatments. Discuss these options with your healthcare provider.
- Consider Additional Features: Some eczema creams are formulated with additional features, such as UV protection or cooling agents for itch relief. Depending on your needs, these features may be beneficial.
- Check for Clinical Trials and Reviews: Research if the eczema cream you’re considering has undergone clinical trials or has positive reviews from dermatologists and users. This can provide insight into its efficacy.
- Cost and Accessibility: Consider your budget and the availability of the cream. OTC creams are generally more affordable and accessible, while prescription creams may have a higher cost and require a doctor’s prescription.
- Ease of Application: Evaluate how easy the cream is to apply and whether it meets your preferences. Some people prefer creams in tubes for precise application, while others find ointments in jars more moisturizing.
- Patch Test: Before applying any new eczema cream to a large area of your skin, conduct a patch test. Apply a small amount to a small section of your skin to check for any adverse reactions or allergies.
Remember that eczema management often involves a combination of skincare routines, lifestyle adjustments, and, in some cases, prescription medications. What works best for one person may not work for another, so it’s essential to find the eczema cream that suits your unique needs and consult with a healthcare professional for guidance.
ingredients
Ceramides:
Ceramides are a crucial component of the skin’s natural barrier. In eczema-prone skin, this barrier is often compromised, leading to increased moisture loss and susceptibility to irritants. Ceramides, found in many eczema creams, are lipids that help replenish and repair this barrier. They work by forming a protective layer on the skin’s surface, locking in moisture, and preventing external irritants from penetrating. Ceramides also support the skin’s overall health, aiding in its ability to function as a protective barrier against environmental stressors. By restoring the skin’s natural barrier, ceramides help reduce dryness, itching, and inflammation associated with eczema, promoting skin comfort and a reduced risk of flare-ups.
Hyaluronic Acid:
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that plays a vital role in maintaining moisture levels. In eczema-prone skin, retaining moisture is particularly challenging, leading to dryness and increased sensitivity. Eczema creams formulated with hyaluronic acid provide significant hydration benefits. This ingredient has a remarkable ability to attract and retain water molecules, effectively locking in moisture and improving the skin’s suppleness. Hyaluronic acid not only hydrates the surface layers but also penetrates deeper into the skin, where it helps to maintain optimal moisture balance. By keeping the skin well-hydrated, hyaluronic acid in eczema creams alleviates dryness, reduces itchiness, and contributes to a smoother, more comfortable skin texture. It’s an excellent choice for individuals looking to combat eczema-related dryness and improve overall skin health.
Shea Butter:
Shea butter is a natural fat extracted from the nuts of the African shea tree. It has gained popularity in skincare products, including eczema creams, due to its exceptional moisturizing and soothing properties. Shea butter is rich in fatty acids, particularly oleic and linoleic acids, which help to lock in moisture and form a protective barrier on the skin’s surface. This barrier aids in preventing water loss and provides relief from dryness and itching, common symptoms of eczema. Shea butter also contains vitamins A and E, which contribute to skin repair and overall health. Additionally, it possesses anti-inflammatory properties that can help calm irritated skin. When incorporated into eczema creams, shea butter offers deep hydration, reduces skin roughness, and promotes skin softness. Its natural, gentle nature makes it suitable for individuals with sensitive or eczema-prone skin, seeking relief and comfort.
Colloidal Oatmeal:
Colloidal oatmeal is a finely ground oat powder derived from whole oats. It is renowned for its skin-soothing properties, making it an excellent ingredient in eczema creams. Colloidal oatmeal contains compounds called avenanthramides, which possess anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities. These compounds help reduce redness, itchiness, and irritation associated with eczema. Furthermore, colloidal oatmeal forms a protective film over the skin’s surface, serving as a barrier to lock in moisture and shield the skin from irritants and allergens.
Colloidal oatmeal is particularly effective in hydrating and calming inflamed, eczema-prone skin. It’s suitable for all skin types, even sensitive skin, as it is generally well-tolerated and rarely causes allergic reactions. Eczema creams containing colloidal oatmeal can provide rapid relief, helping to alleviate discomfort and promote skin healing.
Beeswax:
Beeswax is a natural wax produced by honey bees. It is used in eczema creams for its emollient and protective properties. Beeswax acts as a thickening agent, giving creams a rich, luxurious texture that can lock in moisture effectively. It forms a protective barrier on the skin’s surface, shielding it from external irritants, pollutants, and harsh weather conditions.
In eczema-prone skin, this protective barrier is essential, as the skin’s natural barrier is often compromised. Beeswax helps to reduce moisture loss and maintain optimal hydration levels, addressing the dryness and itching associated with eczema. Additionally, beeswax is known to have mild anti-inflammatory properties, which can provide relief from redness and inflammation.
Beeswax is a well-tolerated ingredient, making it suitable for individuals with sensitive skin. When included in eczema creams, it contributes to skin comfort, softness, and overall skin health. Its natural origin and skin-nourishing qualities make it a popular choice for those seeking a more natural approach to eczema care.
Aloe Vera:
Aloe vera is a succulent plant renowned for its soothing and healing properties, making it a valuable ingredient in eczema creams. The gel extracted from aloe vera leaves contains vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and amino acids that contribute to skin health. Aloe vera has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, which can help reduce redness, itching, and the risk of infection in eczema-prone skin. It also contains compounds that promote skin cell regeneration, aiding in the healing of damaged skin.
When applied topically, aloe vera provides instant relief by cooling and hydrating the skin. It forms a protective layer on the skin’s surface, preventing moisture loss and soothing irritation. Aloe vera is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin, and is often used to alleviate eczema symptoms such as dryness, redness, and discomfort.
Jojoba Oil:
Jojoba oil is a liquid wax extracted from the seeds of the jojoba plant. It closely resembles the skin’s natural sebum, making it an excellent choice for eczema creams. Jojoba oil is rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants, which contribute to its moisturizing and healing properties. When applied to the skin, it helps restore the skin’s lipid barrier, reducing water loss and improving hydration.
Jojoba oil is non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic, making it suitable for sensitive and eczema-prone skin. It possesses anti-inflammatory properties, which can help calm redness and inflammation associated with eczema flare-ups. Additionally, jojoba oil is non-greasy and easily absorbed, leaving the skin soft and smooth without a heavy or oily feeling.
By incorporating jojoba oil into eczema creams, these products can effectively moisturize, soothe, and protect the skin. Its gentle nature and compatibility with various skin types make it a valuable ingredient for those seeking relief from eczema symptoms.
Calendula Extract:
Calendula, also known as marigold, is a bright, cheerful flower with remarkable healing properties. Extracts from calendula flowers are often included in eczema creams due to their anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and soothing qualities. Calendula extract contains flavonoids, saponins, and triterpenoids, which contribute to its medicinal properties.
When applied topically, calendula extract can help reduce redness, itching, and inflammation associated with eczema. It’s particularly beneficial for dry and sensitive skin. The natural antioxidants in calendula extract also aid in protecting the skin from environmental stressors.
Furthermore, calendula extract is gentle and well-tolerated, making it suitable for individuals with eczema-prone skin, including babies and children. Its use in eczema creams can provide relief from discomfort, promote healing, and contribute to overall skin well-being.
Incorporating these ingredients into eczema creams can enhance their effectiveness in providing relief from eczema symptoms and promoting healthier, more comfortable skin. However, individual responses to ingredients may vary, so patch testing is recommended, especially for those with sensitive skin or allergies.
